Communication Intern, Tyler Union:
July 2024 - May 2025
In this internship, I established a strong body of work reflective of applied skills in Communication practice that demonstrates an ability to transfer classroom learning to a real-world role for a company. The following samples are from the 2025 year to reflect my most recent work and are divided into four sections.
Press Releases and Earned Media
Press Release: Skid Steer Donation
This release provides information regarding the donation of a skid steer to a local career technical school and was produced as it reflects our company’s commitment to community and supporting tomorrow’s workforce. For this release, I called and spoke with Eric Lovvorn, principal and career technical education director at Cleburne County Career Technical School, to learn more about what the donation meant to the school and how it would be used.

Large Diameter Foundry Expansion: Media Advisory Targeted Distribution
I played a role in both planning for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the company’s $25 million expansion as well as earning coverage for the event. Creating a targeted media list for desired broadcast and print news outlets, I distributed a media advisory created by corporate communication through email and made follow up calls over the phone to help gain coverage for the ceremony.

Publications and Written Projects
This one-page ad was published in the Calhoun County Chamber of Commerce’s 2025 Economic Forum Magazine with the intent of raising awareness about Tyler Union and M&H Valve Company’s purpose to readers and sharing the companies’ rich history in the area, economic impact, and focus on giving back that demonstrates the critical role McWane Anniston Operations plays in Calhoun County. In being assigned this project, I asked questions to understand overall objective and what we wanted the magazine’s audience to take away from the ad to determine what messaging and focus points to include.

Corporate Intranet Article: Empowering the Next Generation of Safety Professionals
This article submitted to corporate intranet covers members of Tyler Union’s Safety team providing a presentation to Jacksonville State University’s American Society of Safety Professionals chapter. For this piece, I gathered content and verified information with the presenters listed and also reached out for a quote from a member of the chapter
The McWane Way Shift Start Templates
These templates are designed for and distributed throughout Anniston Operations, Tyler Union and M&H Valve Company, to help increase The McWane Way recognition. The McWane Way consists of eight core principles with associated values and behaviors that helps ensure success throughout company operations. Involving multiple sit-down discussions with management on the floor and leadership, these templates were developed with critical feedback integrated. The template featured here focuses on the principle of communication, features a narrative to follow, questions to probe discussion that help drive two-way dialogue, a notes section for feedback, and sheets for supervision to track who heard the discussion.

International Women’s Day Video
This video post was published to our accounts to celebrate the women throughout our company for International Women’s Day. This video features female subjects that work in various departments, and even in leadership roles, which helps demonstrate the vital role women play throughout Tyler Union’s operations. The footage was filmed on a Canon EOS Rebel Ti5 and edited in Adobe Premiere Pro, and I developed the caption for the post.
Worlds of Work Post
This post was published to our accounts to demonstrate our team’s involvement at East Alabama Works “Worlds of Work,” where around 8,000 nearby students performed hands-on activities that introduced them to various career worlds. The photos were sent to me by members of our team at the event, and I intentionally centered the post caption around explaining how foundry in a box provided students the opportunity to create castings – a pretty neat activity that demonstrates the innovative way our team sought to inform and inspire students who visited the booth.
Outside Sales Awareness Campaign
This post is part of a campaign I developed in collaboration with members of the outside sales team intended to raise awareness for members of our team among others in industry as well as help convey personality to our audience in the local community. For this post and campaign, I created a survey that I distributed to the regional sales managers for their approval and then distributed the survey to the individual territory managers. Once the territory manager completed the survey, I created their post and sent it to them for approval.
Key Deliverables
Expansion Fact Sheet
This fact sheet was an integral part in the creation of a press release for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the expansion. As the point of contact between operations at Tyler Union and corporate communication, I gathered and vetted information with members of engineering who played a role in the expansion project as well as floor management.
Banner for Expansion
This banner served as the backdrop for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the facility expansion. For this project, I developed messaging that demonstrated the facility’s importance to our operations and provided leadership several design options to choose from to ensure two-way communication and an understanding of what would be produced. The design selected, as well as the other designs created, can be viewed by clicking the button. This banner was 8’ x 4’ in size and ordered through a local vendor.
